EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Marina Shearer graduated from Canterbury University with a BSc. in psychology in 1990.  Her working career began with CLEAR Communications the first competitor to the NZ Telecommunications arena.  Marina was trained by North American organisation Bell Canada to be the face of Phone Power in the South Island.

She consulted and facilitated in large call centres and assisted organisations like Westpac, Ravensdown Fertiliser, SouthPower, Hurst Holdings, Meridian Power and many more to have the best customer services, phone presence, debt collection services and telemarketing teams

After five years with CLEAR Marina married Craig Shearer a sheep and beef farmer from Waiau, she moved 90 minutes north of Christchurch and took up a position consulting on behalf of NZIM  (NZ Institute of Management).

Marina continued in this role for 15years as the NZIM facilitator for Communications, Relationships, Customer Services and Personality Profiling.

The Christchurch earthquake destroyed the NZIM facility in Christchurch and meant a change of direction for many of the staff including Marina.

The years after the Christchurch earthquake were difficult for everyone in business, people were  relocating to different cities, businesses were closing down and relocating different parts of their function to other locations.  Everyone was focused on insurance claims and getting back to a normal way of life.  The need for coaching and facilitation was no longer in Christchurch.

Marina shifted her focus to businesses in the Hurunui district where she lived.  She spent the next few years facilitating for organisations like the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, Polkadots preschool, The Hurunui District Council, The Red Post cafe and local farming teams.  She also picked up a contract to travel around NZ for the Hurst Family providing coaching to their Retirement Village Managers.

In 2016 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the little town of Waiau where Marina and her family live.  Now it was her turn to focus on her community, their farm insurance claims and fixing up their family home.  All in all the earthquakes have had a combined impact of 8 years on Marina's business.

During the last 3 years Marina has been studying for the Diploma of Coaching through the Southern Institute of Technology.  She believes that in the world of coaching it is important to have a qualification to give clients confidence.  The Diploma is a rigorous qualification involving hours of research, practical coaching application and assessment.  Marina graduates from SIT in 2019.

Marina qualified as an Extended DISC® practitioner in 2015 through HR Profiling and received her Master Trainer status in 2019.  For 4 years she has been under Master Trainer Mike Carr, benefitting from his experience and knowledge in business coaching.

Now she welcomes her own team of affiliates who she will train and mentor through their own journey with Extended DISC®.
